This module provides information on organizational assessment based upon trauma-informed values and awareness, on implementation and an assessment model of trauma-informed care.

Upon completion of this module, you will be able to explain the importance of how and why both consumers and staff need a trauma-informed environment for treatment and healing. You will understand the core values of trauma-informed care that need to be assessed in your agency. And you will be able to explain the method described in the module to assess your agency’s policies for trauma-informed care.

Topics Covered

Defining Trauma-Informed Care

This course has been designed as the introductory course for assessing agencies for trauma-informed care. As part of that introduction, the course expert has designed this first course to provide an overview of trauma-informed care and the importance of understanding why staff needs a trauma-informed environment. 

Core Values of Trauma-Informed Care

This course does provide the participants with the core values of trauma-informed care including safety, collaboration, and empowerment. These values should be upheld throughout the agency and should help to decrease secondary trauma throughout the agency.  

Assessing Your Agency 

The course expert will provide evidence-based best practices for conducting an initial assessment of your agency. This course will also provide proven methodologies for identifying any problem areas in your agency as it relates to trauma-informed care. 

Additional Considerations

That the work you do to become trauma-informed can provide a client with the compassion and open-mindedness that they deserve, anyone can have a history of trauma that impacts them severely, but your ability to reassure them provides the safety they need.
