Definition:

Therapeutic communities (TC) are a common form of long-term residential treatment for substance use disorders in which the social and group process is harnessed with therapeutic intent. The TC promotes abstinence from alcohol and drug use, seeks to decrease antisocial behavior, and to effect a global change in lifestyle, including attitudes and values. The TC employs the community itself as the agent of healing.
