Definition:
Hepatitis is a disease characterized by inflammation of the liver. This condition can be self-limiting or can progress to fibrosis (scarring), cirrhosis, or liver cancer. It may be caused by viral infection, or by chronic exposure to poisons, chemicals, or drugs, and alcohol.
