Definition:

Enabling is defined as giving someone or something the authority or means to do something. Enabling behavior shields people from experiencing the full impact and consequences of their behavior. Enabling is different from helping and supporting in that it allows the enabled person to be irresponsible and destructive.

This usually goes hand in hand with codependency. Al-Anon is a 12 (Twelve) Step Fellowship group to help with codependency and enabling issues.
