Definition:

Contingency Management (CM) is an approach to treatment, often called motivational incentives, rooted in basis of operant conditioning. CM refers to the application of the three-term contingency, which uses stimulus control and positive reinforcement to change behavior.

CM has been shown to be effective for a range of issues including impulsive behaviors, defiance, and substance use disorders.
