Definition:

Bath Salts (Synthetic Cathinones) is the name of a category of drugs related to the naturally occurring Khat plant. They are stimulants, meaning that they speed up the messages between the brain and the body and have similar effects to amphetamines.

Bath Salts and other designer drugs like synthetic cannabis (K2 or Spice) are being classified as New Psychoactive Substances. The reason they are classified this way is because their creators are constantly changing the chemical makeup of the substance in an attempt to stay ahead of the law. As a result of this, their safety is unknown.
